Tips for Managing Social Life in a Freelancing Jobs

Freelancing is fascinating, isn’t it? Working as a freelancer is like a dream come true. The level of comfort that you can relish sitting at home, wearing home casuals, etc are few things which only freelancers will understand. You have freedom to make your own schedules and follow it. But, it has a downside that it degrades your social life. I bet it’s very annoying for your near and dear ones, therefore act upon ASAP to change your working habits to accommodate your social life. You do not have office colleagues whom you can hang out with or indulge in gossips in office premises. Love your co-workers or hate them, admit or not they are the biggest source of social support in one’s life.

In order to meet the deadlines, often freelancers dive into their client’s project so much that they unknowingly start neglecting friends and family, and create an unwanted shell around them.

“Quality of life rely upon finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.”

Do you live to do your job or do your job to live? The choice is yours.

Here I am quoting few ways how you can maintain your social life while managing your freelancing job.

Spend Quality Time with Friends & Family

Relationship with anyone means a two-way connection, hence efforts should be from your side as well. Anyone can’t force their relationship upon you. Therefore, it is something you needs to look after. People will not run after you every time to have your time. In fact, they might even forget you if you are not in touch with them for a long time. If you have a family, it is important for you to have a good communication with them, in fact on daily basis.

Take a Day off Every Week

It is good, to be honest with your work but taking a day off won’t prove you disloyal with your work. You must take a day off from your work every week in order to relax your mind and have a chit-chat time with friends, family etc. Go for a movie or do activities which make you feel relaxed.

Plan Tours and vacations

To recharge your mind and body from the daily dose of work, one good way is to take a vacation. Vacations are as important as sleep. Just as lack of sleep impedes your ability and productivity to think energetically, lack of tours and vacations disgrace your productivity of work. Now pack your bags and visit your most desirable place with friends.

Do Not Overlook Hobbies

Unfortunately, besides hobbies rarely make the list of priorities in making your social life. Remember your childhood days when playing your favourite game was the foremost thing you loved. By definition, Hobby is an activity done regularly in one’s leisure time for pleasure. Do not blemish this definition by neglecting your favourite pastime. Remember, if you are losing your leisure, believe me – you are losing your soul.

Hangout with Friends

Do you see a group of people talking and laughing outside? Do you miss your old and close friends? Don’t feel reluctant to ring them. Make your bonding stronger with your friends by hanging out frequently. In fact, allow your friends to visit your place often and vice versa. Have a pep time with them and refresh your mind.

Daily Reflection Time

I know you have a deadline to complete your tasks but working 7 to 8 hours in a day is worthy for you. If you are working for 9 to 10 hours in a day, then you just take short breaks in between to boost up your energy. Try to complete your daily tasks within this time frame and indulge yourself in other activities after your work. Go for a walk with a friend or call your best pal for a light gossip.

Engage with Social Media Connections

Just by posting content will not let you engage with your connections. Spend some time viewing other’s posts as well. Like, share and comment to have a noticeable conversation with others. Participate in discussions and let others know that you exist socially as well. Share your views, opinions on ongoing trends and latest news going on in the world. Personally, I feel social media – particularly, Facebook – becomes an addiction, which will cause more work delays. Therefore, be wise and set a time for visiting your social media profiles, spend some time and then get back to work.

Try to temporarily distance apart yourself from work and other stress. Realize managing your social life is equally important as working. Let your friends and family know that you are still loyal to them.
